We landed in Sint Maarten, and we stayed in Saint Martin. Same island, but half is owned by the Dutch, and half by the French. Very friendly people. Our host (French) even helped us from the airport with all of our stuff and to the Ferry when we left. The island was busy, and traffic was insane. We drove on the same said as in America, but there didn't seem to be any traffic laws except maybe a speed limit here and there. There were no lights, and stops signs were rare. Everyone just kind of drove on their own. You had to be a little aggressive at times to get through, while other times other drivers would be laid back and let whoever wanted to come through go.
The back of the apartment we stayed in was facing the lagoon, as you can see buildings on the other side. It was a perfect beach for our family! The water was shallow for a bit, we had a canoe to use, the sand was a blast to play in, and we only occasionally saw a snorkeler, or people walking on the beach. It was mostly just ours.
We were on the beach every day! Some days we went across the street and visited the beach facing the Anguilla Channel.
This family picture is a picture from Philipsburg beach. We also visited the towns and shops...mostly on a hunt to buy shorts for Matthew... who only brought one pair of shorts... that were ripped.
The guest house we were in also had a pool available for guests! We were in that nearly everyday too!
The kids also went exploring with Daddy many times while I stayed with the napping baby and made meals. Their favorite place to explore was the "Forest" which was actually like a jungle. There they found and caught many many crabs, and kindly brought them home to me.

I will say the mosquitos here were horrible! I ended up with 56 bites in the 8 day stay we were there. We used the Citronella burning coils, and I used several different kinds of sprays. Luckily the kids didn't get more then 3 or 4 bites each. It also was very hot. The place we were in had minimal windows for opening once you closed the outside doors at night. Their was rarely a breeze. But good thing we had water all around us to thoroughly enjoy! :)
We absolutely, hands down, loved our family vacation! We treasured every minute together before Matthew starts med school Monday!
