THE BURNS....
My poor baby burned her hand :(
Don't worry, we all cried with her.
So Tuesday the 29th, I decided to finally bake something in the oven. We have yet to use our oven, because I haven't wanted to heat up the house. I also have an instant pot that I am able to get away with most my cooking in. So a little over a month being here, I turned on the oven. It worked great! The food came out looking and tasting fabulous as well. I turned off the oven and went on my way preparing a meal.
Hannah had brushed up against the oven and was currently telling me that the oven was hot. Sadie who has the new-found-love of pulling herself up to stand, used the oven to pull herself up. She just started screaming, and Hannah who was next to her, pulled her down, and hollered that Sadie got burned. After rushing to her side, I found she was right! I touched the oven, and pulled away in pain myself!
What I didn't know, was that, unlike the ovens in America with a thick door and a double pane window, this door was very thin and VERY HOT.
Of course the blisters always get worse before getting better, but we took her in just in case. 2 spots did end up getting infected despite our best efforts to keep it clean, and wrapped when awake, and with ointment on it. Good news is that after taking her in again, we got an antibiotic cream and those 2 spots have since cleared up.
Okay, second up... THE BUG!
My mom was here to visit, and after walking to the kitchen to prepare some food, she calmly walked back and said, "So, what do you do about cockroaches?" I laughed, "Ha, nothing, haven't had any"
….Until that moment we hadn't had any.
My mom showed me were it had run, we cleared off the counter and set to hunting it down. We found it only to have it run behind the stove. So we moved the stove.
Still no sign of it. So we sprayed roach killer like crazy all around the stove. Figured the spray killed it, and faced the task of what to have for dinner....not like we had an appetite after that.
Then I saw it.
Feet away from my mom, all I could do was scream, I literally could not think of the words to say, as I watched it come out from under the stove.... and run over my moms socked foot. Then I really couldn't think of what to say, and my mom starts hoping around looking for it, and it starts running up her leg! Eeeek! At calf height it fell off, and she attacked it with Lysol, while I grabbed the Roach spray to finish it off. Success! The menace was exterminated!
BIRTHDAY
Okay, now that you have lost your appetite for anything, and probably feel your skin crawling...
On to the birthday celebrations! I can't believe Sadie is a year! I think back to where we were a year ago and memories of hospital stays, bed rest, and NICU trauma come flooding back. But so do the memories of miracles, blessings, and angels among us. Sadie wasn't due until JULY, but was born in MAY! I can not believe how blessed we are, and how beautifully our daughter has developed this past year!
Here is some of the fun!
We put balloons on the wall at Sadie's height. She was fascinated!
As typical for a 1 year old. She was more interested in the wrapping than the presents and her older siblings loved helping her unwrap!
Now comes the cake!
(She just had a bib & diaper for this part!)
Forget the plate!
Once she figured out how good it was, she was shoveling fist fulls in her mouth! Yet I am amazed by a baby's innate ability to tell when they are full, or done eating. Despite the sugar goodness, when she had enough, she simply stopped eating.
Next week, watch for a guest post about her visit to our blissful island!
